Society Meetings

Society meetings are normally held on the second Friday of each month from September to July and are free for members.  Visitors are very welcome (£2 at the door).

The meetings for the 2018/19 session are:

Sunday 12th August 2018
Perseid Meteors Observing and BBQ
At the Wembury Beach car park (map on the Join us page),
8.00pm onwards for the BBQ and it gets dark about 9.30pm. 
Please bring your own portable/disposable BBQs and food and drink.

Friday 14th September 2018
Talks:      The HOYS-CAPS Citizen Science Project, by Dr Dirk Froebrich.  Dirk is a Senior Lecturer in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Kent at Canterbury and is the Principal Investigator for this Citizen Science project.

Talks:      Black Holes, by Prof. David McMullan.  David is a Professor of Particle Physics at Plymouth University.

Talks:      Eddington Lodge, by Hannah Davey.  Eddington Lodge is a stargazing holiday complex near Bude, North Cornwall.
               Equipment Display and Discussion. If you want to learn how to use your telescope or are considering buying one soon then this is the meeting for you!

Talks:       Dynamic Skies, by Will Gater. Will is a well-known astronomy journalist, author and presenter who appears on TV and radio and writes regularly for Astronomy Now, BBC Sky at Night Magazine, New Scientist, etc.
